In Memorium: The University mourns the loss of student Susan Facini

Memorial on Thursday, December 8, 2011

To all Faculty, Staff and Students:

It is with deep sadness that I send this message regarding the loss of a beloved undergraduate of the Stony Brook community, Susan Facini, who was lost suddenly on Wednesday evening to an apparent cardiac arrest. On behalf of the Stony Brook University community, I would like to express my deepest condolences to Susie’s family as well as her friends and others at Stony Brook who knew and cared for her. Susie was a sophomore who grew up locally in Rocky Point and lived in Gray College here on campus. She was a promising young woman with great school spirit and pride in Stony Brook University. Her mother told us that she would proudly chant her affiliation as a Seawolf around the house, and she was friends with many in the Spirit of Stony Brook marching band and a loyal fan of Stony Brook Rugby.

The Office of the Dean of Students is advising students, faculty and staff of resources, listed below, that are available to support the campus community at this difficult time. Visitation services for Susie were held over the Thanksgiving weekend.

A campus memorial is planned for Thursday, December 8, 2011 in SAC Ballroom B at 7:15pm.

Anyone with additional questions, concerns or needing assistance should feel free to contact the office of the Dean of Students at 631-632-7320.
